Platform Instructions

Select your operating system below for detailed installation steps.

macOS Installation

Recaster for macOS is distributed as a .dmg disk image. The file is named Recaster-<version>-macos.dmg.

1

Open the DMG file

Double-click the downloaded .dmg file to mount the disk image. A Finder window will open showing the Recaster application icon and an Applications folder shortcut.

2

Drag to Applications

Drag the Recaster icon onto the Applications folder shortcut. This copies the application to your Applications directory.

3

Launch Recaster

Open your Applications folder and find Recaster. On the first launch only, you need to right-click (or Control-click) the application and select Open from the context menu. This is required because the build is currently unsigned.

4

Confirm the Gatekeeper prompt

macOS will display a warning that the application is from an unidentified developer. Click Open to confirm. After this first confirmation, you can launch Recaster normally from Launchpad, Spotlight, or the Dock.

macOS Gatekeeper

Recaster builds are currently unsigned (code signing is planned for a future release). On first launch, macOS Gatekeeper will block the application. You must right-click the app and choose "Open" to bypass this restriction. Double-clicking will show an error instead.

Gatekeeper Bypass Shortcut

If you accidentally double-clicked and saw the "cannot be opened" error, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down. You will see a message about Recaster being blocked, with an "Open Anyway" button. Click it and confirm.

Uninstalling on macOS

To uninstall Recaster, drag the application from your Applications folder to the Trash. To also remove settings and cached data, delete the support directory:

Terminalbash
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Recaster

Verify Your Installation

After launching Recaster for the first time, you should see the BIPA consent dialog. This is a legally required consent form that must be accepted before the application loads. After accepting, the main Recaster window will appear with a loading overlay while initial resources are prepared.

If the application does not start, check the System Requirements page to ensure your hardware and software meet the minimum specifications. For platform-specific issues, see the Platform-Specific Troubleshooting guide.
